Geomagnetics + Marine Magnetics

PI Tominaga, in close collaboration with Senior Scientist Dr. Maurice A. Tivey at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, has been investigating the nature and behavior of Earth’s geomagnetic field particularly in the Middle Jurassic, particularly focusing on advancing our knowledge about the origin of the Jurassic magnetic Quiet Zone (JQZ). Our 2014 JQZ cruise on R/V Sikuliaq is documented on the cruise blog and cruise report.

Students at MAPLES are currently working on marine magnetic – reflection seismic integration project to decipher the rifting process that formed the Eastern North American Margin (ENAM) as a part of GeoPRISMS community effort.
